unique pair of collectible post-WWII vintage hardcover books written entirely in Latvian. Both volumes are uniform editions penned by the recognized twentieth-century Latvian educator and author Elga Kore (1894–1963), published posthumously in the mid-1960s. The books feature striking cloth-bound hardcover boards adorned with intricately stamped graphic spines depicting traditional Latvian ethno-folk symbols and pine needle patterns. Lot Details 1. Title: Divi Mūži (Two Lifetimes / Two Generations) • Genre: Novel (Romāns) • Publication Year: 1964 • Scope: A narrative exploring the struggles, cultural gaps, and emotional dynamics between two distinct generations of women—a mother and her daughter. 2. Title: Zvaigžņu Ceļi (Star Paths / Pathways of the Stars) • Genre: Collected Short Prose (Romāni un Stāsti / Īsprozas krājums) • Publication Year: 1966 • Scope: A beautiful posthumous anthology gathering together the author's shorter fiction, stories, and novellas. Collector's Points of Interest • The Post-War Diaspora Context: These works are rare artifacts of the Latvian "exile literature" (trimdas literatūra) movement. Following the Soviet re-occupation of the Baltic states after World War II, a massive diaspora of Latvian intellectuals, writers, and artists preserved their language and culture through dedicated publishers abroad. • The Publisher: Both volumes were printed by Tilta Apgāds (under the guidance of Hugo Skrastiņš) based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. "Tilts" was one of the cornerstone cultural networks connecting displaced Latviam communities across North America and Europe. • The Author: Elga Kore was a respected lifelong schoolteacher and prose author whose career spanned across the independent Republic of Latvia, Germany, and later the United States. She frequently wrote for youth theaters and local diaspora cultural institutions. • Binding Aesthetic: Collectors highly prize these distinct Tilta Apgāds geometric, folklore-inspired spines because they create a stunning, cohesive display when grouped on a library shelf.
