Beautiful, cohesive collection of four vintage, hardcover novels written by Latvian author Jānis Sārts and published by the prominent exile publishing house, Tilta Apgāds, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. All volumes feature their original decorative bindings, reflecting the mid-century aesthetic of Latvian diaspora communities preserving their literary heritage abroad. Books Included in this Lot: 1. Māra (1965) – Single volume novel, hardcover 2. Krusts Debesīs (1965) – Single volume novel, hardcover 3. Meža Miers: Romāns 2 grāmatās – Sējums I (1972) – First volume of the two-part forest epic. 4. Meža Miers: Romāns 2 grāmatās – Sējums II (1972) – Second volume completing the set. • The Importance of Latvian Exile Literature: Following World War II, a massive wave of Latvian intellectuals, writers, and artists fled Soviet occupation, establishing vibrant diaspora communities in North America, Europe, and Australia. Books printed during this era kept the native Latvian language, history, and independent cultural identity alive while free expression was strictly suppressed behind the Iron Curtain. • The Publisher (Tilta Apgāds): Founded in Minneapolis, Tilts (The Bridge) was one of the premier post-war Latvian exile publishing houses. They were known for producing incredibly high-quality hardbacks with strict editorial standards, ensuring that refugees scattered globally had access to new prose and poetry. • The Artist (Eduards Dzenis): The Meža Miers volumes explicitly note "Eduarda Dzeņa vāks" (Cover by Eduards Dzenis) Latviešu bibliotēka Šveicē. Dzenis was a respected graphic artist in the exile community who regularly designed distinct, striking mid-century typography and cover illustrations for key cultural publications Pickup category timeslot {A}
