Hand-Blown Aqua/Teal Art Glass Bowl
• I believe this is a vintage Mexican
glassware piece associated with MCM
from makers like Avalos or Kristaluxus
from Tlaquepaque, Mexico.
• This is a medium walled glass bowl
including organic air bubbles trapped
inside the glass walls. It has a clean,
round, freeform profile with a fire-
polished rim and a weighted base typical
of Mid-Century modern studio glass.
• The piece is formed via "Optic
Molding". The glass is dipped it into a
vertically ribbed metal mold or optic
mold then twisted while the blowpipe
expands the glass. This forces the
straight ribs to warp into a spiral pattern.
• There is a concave base, or "kick up"
which stabilizes the bowl like a "foot" on
ceramics. The pontil is fire polished.

Cristallo Venezia CC "Uranium
Glass" Murano Sommerso Large-
Scale Centrepiece Bowl
• The exaggerated, horizontally stretched
winged silhouette with curled-horn
handles is a hallmark design strictly tied
to their 1960's production era. As well, all
Murano factories phased out the use of
uranium oxide powder in their standard
production runs as of 1970.
• This piece does not have a label, but
Can be attributed to Cristallo Venezia
CC for the following reasons:
1) There are identical green-and-amber
Sommerso core bowls with the
outspread silhouette, and the scrolled
horn handles that exist in collector
databases and archive sites like 20th
Century Glass
2) Cristallo Venezia pieces feature a
highly recognizable, heavy multi-pointed
star-shaped or pedestal glass base.
3) The tightly curled, horn-like scroll handles
are a specific design trademark of this
workshop.
4) Your UV light test confirmed a uranium-
doped green glass layer wrapped sharply
alongside a non-reactive amber layer, all
encased in a thick crystal shell. This
complex, multi-layered chemical recipe
aligns exactly with the batch formulas used
by Cristallo Venezia during their prime
1950's-1960's.
• This piece is is classified as a Large-
Scale Centerpiece Bowl, because of the
weight and size, and were treated as
premium luxury investments when
bought new in the 1960's

• Norpro first introduced this classic
blackbird model with the yellow beak
during the late 1970's or early 1980's.
• Vents Steam: You place the hollow
ceramic bird right in the center of a
double-crust fruit pie before baking.
• Prevents Boil-Over: As the filling cooks
and bubbles, steam escapes directly up
through the hollow body and out of the
bird's open beak.
• Saves the Crust: By venting the steam,
it keeps the top pastry crust from
sagging, tearing, or becoming soggy
from trapped moisture.
• In excellent condition, no cracks,
breaks, or chips. View Images.
