(B) Four «Thrown and Hand Painted Chinese "Rice Grain" Porcelain Bowls • Established around 1910, Jiangxi Porcelain Co. with the associated with the Wan Yu brand and high-quality rice grain export ware was the Jiangxi Porcelain Co. (Jiangxi Ciye Gongsi). • These bowls are from the Republic Period (1912-1949). • Around 1900 (the late Qing Dynasty/ Guangxu period to the Early Republic), export porcelain destined for the West was required by the US McKinley Tariff Act to be marked. • Wares from that early era were marked with a hand-painted or stamped "CHINA" in block text. • So this set dates between 1930 and 1960, because it has both the Chinese calligraphy, and the "CHINA" stamp. • The central focus is a hand-painted chrysanthemum (#j7é juhua), a classic symbol in Chinese art representing longevity, health, and resilience • The Blue Character marks on the base beneath the red stamp "China" are hand-painted and part of the "Wan Yu" (HE) mark. This mark, which translates to "Enjoying Jade," was used by high-quality kilns in Jingdezhen to signify that their porcelain was as fine and smooth as jade. • There are the "Auspicious Bats" around the outer rim of the base. • Note the differences of the hand painted section above the base rim. These are called the "Eight Precious Things" (or Ba Bao), lozenge (or "fang sheng"), and the Musical Stone (or Qing) which are traditional Chinese symbols of good fortune and luxury. Each is different showing a different decorator hand painted design. • All in excellent condition, no cracks, breaks, or chips.
