A beautiful Robert Held art glass vase.
Green with gold accents.
In excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
Original foil label still attached.
Measures 7" tall with top having a diameter of 3".
Robert was born in Santa Ana, California. His initial focus was in painting, and then in ceramics. While pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree, he was awarded the prestigious "Glen Lukins Award". After graduating, he became Head of Ceramics at the Sheridan School of Design in Oakville, Ontario. During a workshop on glassblowing, Robert discovered his true passion. He realized that the rich colours developed on canvas and the classic forms derived from the pottery could be intertwined into hot glass. This new form developed Canada's modern glass arts movement. Robert operated his studio, Robert Held Art Glass, in Vancouver until his semiretirement. He then moved to Parksville on Vancouver Island where he opened a much smaller shop with only 2 staff- he couldn’t leave glass- his love, all together. This shop closed in 2024 so his work is becoming increasingly scarce.

Two Liuli Gongfang figurines on offer. The company Liuli Gongfang (also known as Liuli Crystal Art) was founded in Taiwan in 1987 to revive the ancient Chinese art of lost wax glass casting ('liuli') or pate de verre. Their sculptures are now sold in 35 museums globally including the Victoria and Albert in London and the Palace Museum in Beijing.
The larger of the two sculptures offered here is an amber coloured horse head with intricate scroll details and curled mane. Signature and etched script on base read Chinese characters plus 2002 116/800. I believe this to mean that this sculpture date stopped 2002 and that it is number 116 from a limited edition of 800. Measures 6" x 4.5"
The second sculpture is a purple and clear 'Flying Pegasus' sculpture. No etched markings on the base. Little Young Pegasus flies above the clouds, and its forehead and the body are covered with peony blossoms. It symbolizes auspiciousness and wealth and walking on the cloud represents auspiciousness and promise. Measures 4.5" x 4.1" x 2.5".
Two traditional rosewood stands are also included to display these figurines.

A three item lot of vintage (or older) clay pre-Columbian/ Meso American style objects. Note that all three items were inherited from a late family member who was a life long traveller and collector of ethnographic artifacts.

This lot includes:
1) A vintage Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican Colima/Nayarit clay figure in seated pose, in good condition, no damage, normal aging. Measures 10" x 4" x 4".

2) A clay flute in human form.(Pre-Columbian clay flutes and ocarinas sculpted in human form (anthropomorphic aerophones) were crafted across ancient Mesoamerica and South America by various cultures. In many, these instruments were believed to act as bridges between the earthly and spiritual realms. Shamans used them during rituals to induce trances, connect with deities, and guide souls. In good condition with normal signs of age but no cracks, chips or damage. Measures 4.5" x 3" x 1.5".

3) A very interesting terracotta jug in human form but with a bird's head. Hands on knees. Incised decoration. In Maya iconography, this nameless figure is referred to by archaeologists simply as the 'Principal Bird Deity'. He is frequently depicted as an anthropomorphic creature with a human body, cross-legged posture, and a large, predatory bird head with a sharp beak. This deity is closely bound to the supreme sky god Itzamná (often acting as his avian avatar or messenger) and is frequently associated with cosmic trees and wealth. Vintage landscape oil painting. Framed. Signed in lower left 'Vivian Walker'. No date. Title;
Trout River. 9" x 12" .

Vivian Walker (1903-1972) studied Art at Sir Williams College of Art, Montreal, Quebec. She had several successful Exhibitions between 1943 and 1962. She had 4 paintings at the Canadian Exhibition in Washington D.C. in 1954. Which were very well received with positive accounts in the press. She was Honorary Treasurer of the Woman’s Art Society of Montreal.

This Impressionist riverside scene was most likely done in and around the Laurentians, north of Montreal. Her strong use of colour gives this piece a lyrical and evocative quality, often associated with 19th century French works, while maintaining a distinctive North American flavour. There is some damage to the back-as shown-but the front is just fine.

“Katrilli” was a dinnerware pattern designed by Esteri Tomula at Arabia Finland, and was in production for a very short period of only 2 years – from 1975 – 1977. Ulla Procope designed the forms. Exceedingly rare on the secondary market.

Brown and white with a repeat pattern of the flower buds around the outside of the pieces, and a wonderfully textured centre to each flower. The warm brown pattern contrasts beautifully with the white glaze which seems to have the slightest touch of creaminess about it.

This lot includes a lidded tea pot, a lidded sugar bowl with plate, a creamer jug with plate and 4 demi tasse cups. All are in amazing condition with no chips, cracks or crazing

Am told that they were very rarely if ever used.

The "Hokusai Design Contemporary Prints" portfolio is a rare, collaborative art project originally published in 1987 by the Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints. It features a unique reinterpretation of Katsushika Hokusai’s design patterns by three of Japan’s most influential graphic designers—Katsumi Asaba, Koichi Sato, and Shin Matsunaga in a hard bound linen covered portfolio case.

The original set included 7 prints. There are only 6 in this set. (A 7th 'Cube' by Shin Matsunaga was lost.)

They are free of fading, foxing, stains, tears, watermarks. All ready for framing.

Katsushika Hokusai was a genious ukiyo-e artist who brought numerous masterpieces into the world. He also drew designs for fine-patterned dyeing, which were compiled in a book entitled "Hokusai Moyo Gafu (Hokusai Design Sketchbook)." In 1986, the woodblocks used to print "Hokusai Moyo Gafu" were discovered in storage at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in the United States. The old woodblocks were returned to Japan and used to make new prints by artisans at the Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints who have mastered traditional woodcut printing techniques.

When "Hokusai Moyo Gafu" was released nearly 150 years after its first publication, Hokusai's modern and ingenious designs became the focus of public attention once again and stimulated the imagination of contemporary creators.

In 1987, the Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints invited three top Japanese designers who resonated with Hokusai's sensibilities to join in a project called "Hokusai Design Contemporary Prints from Hokusai Design Sketchbook". This offering is the result. Katsumi Asaba, Koichi Sato and Shin Matsunaga recomposed the patterns included in "Hokusai Moyo Gafu" to create a 'new' world of woodcut prints.

Titles of Each Design
> Katsumi Asaba: "Colored Glasses of Hokusai I・II"
> Koichi Sato: "Dice/Yakkosan"
> Shin Matsunaga:　"DEEP SEA/MOON"
