Lot #36: Two Liuli Gongfang Crystal Art Figurines; Amber Horsehead and Young Pegasus

Two Liuli Gongfang figurines on offer. The company Liuli Gongfang (also known as Liuli Crystal Art) was founded in Taiwan in 1987 to revive the ancient Chinese art of lost wax glass casting ('liuli') or pate de verre. Their sculptures are now sold in 35 museums globally including the Victoria and Albert in London and the Palace Museum in Beijing. The larger of the two sculptures offered here is an amber coloured horse head with intricate scroll details and curled mane. Signature and etched script on base read Chinese characters plus 2002 116/800. I believe this to mean that this sculpture date stopped 2002 and that it is number 116 from a limited edition of 800. Measures 6" x 4.5" The second sculpture is a purple and clear 'Flying Pegasus' sculpture. No etched markings on the base. Little Young Pegasus flies above the clouds, and its forehead and the body are covered with peony blossoms.
