A 3 item lot of Pacific Northwest Native art items. 1) An older Salish woven cedar basketry tray with handles and imbrication. Measures 13.5" in diameter. In good condition with one 1.5" section along the rim of missing cedar wrap. Other than this no issues noted. 2) A small Native portrait mask by Coast Salish artist Artie George. Measures 5" x 3.75". Finely carved and with a lovely patina. Mask has a leather, feather and bead element dangling from the left side. Artie George, great nephew of Chief Dan George, is a Coast Salish woodcarver. Born in North Vancouver in 1970, he is from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation (Burrard Band). Artie began carving at the age of 13 and is mainly self-taught. The relentless dedication that he brings to his art and the quiet grace which accompanies that dedication has awarded Artie respect from his peers as a carver of fine detail. His art can be found in collections around the world such as the world famous Glenbow Museum in Calgary, the UBC museum of Anthropology and the Smithsonian Native American Museum in Washington D.C. 3) The third item is a cedar carving of a Spirit Bear with Salmon. Dated on back, 1982. It is signed with the surname 'Joseph' but am not sure of the first name initial. (The Joseph family are well respected as carvers within the Squamish Nation. Stan Joseph for example he carved a 60-foot pole for Sea Span in 1980 and another for the Chief Joe Matthias Centre as well as the welcome figure that now stands on the West Vancouver Pier. The first initial looks like a 'J' which means this could possibly be the work of Jimmy Joseph, a member of the Alert Bay Kwakiutl Nation.) Measures 13" x 7" x 2.5".
