Danny Dennis (1951–2012) was a talented self-taught Gitxsan First Nations artist from British Columbia, with Tsimshian heritage. Born in Port Essington and raised primarily in the Hazelton area, Dennis began his professional artistic career in 1978. He became recognized for his distinctive interpretations of traditional Northwest Coast Indigenous art, working in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, carving and jewellery. Inspired by renowned artists Robert Davidson and Francis Williams, Dennis developed a style characterized by flowing lines, striking forms and powerful imagery. His work was exhibited in galleries throughout Canada and internationally, including Germany. Raven and First Man is a striking representation of Northwest Coast Indigenous art, featuring the iconic Raven alongside a human figure. Dennis uses the traditional formline design vocabulary, incorporating bold flowing shapes, intricate contours and the dramatic contrast of black, red and white. The composition brings together powerful symbolic imagery and remarkable visual movement, drawing the viewer into a story rooted in Indigenous cultural traditions and mythology. Raven holds an important place in many Northwest Coast traditions, often associated with creation, transformation and the relationship between the natural and spiritual worlds. This captivating piece is a wonderful example of Danny Dennis's distinctive artistic style and would make a meaningful addition to a collection of Canadian Indigenous art overall size including frame 18.5 x 15.5 inches Dimensions: 18.5 x 15.5 Pickup category timeslot {A}
