Hand Carved Wooden Heron Bowl
. I believe that this was made from a
hardwood either cherry or myrtle wood.
• There is a trapezoidal mortise-and-
tenon wedge joint joining the neck to the
body of the bowl, which rules out that
this was made in Hawaii as their bowls
were made from one piece without joints.
• I believe this was made by a crafts
person somewhere along the West Coast
from California to BC, and dates back to
the mid-century period 1960's-1970's.
• This piece is not signed, but because
there are two toned wood inlays for the
eyes, it demonstrates a master craft level
of wood working.

Robert Held - Blown Art Glass Vase
• This is an unsigned piece by Robert
Held, which originally had a sticker or
label that has been removed over time.
• This vase was made between 1987 and
the early 2000's.
• Smaller production pieces from the
(RHAG) series were often not signed.
• The styling points that make this a
Robert Held piece:
1) the base reveals a smooth, slightly
concave, circular polished area (called a
ground pontil mark) directly over the
internal mottled glass pattern
2) The most defining feature is the
abstract, organic web or "lightning bolt"
pattern trailing across the body.
3) Held purposely used a thick layer of
clear lead-free crystal to case over this
pigmented center, giving the vase a
deep, three-dimensional "glowing" feel.

shape with the wide mouth lip is a
common repeated from.

Murano MCM Art Glass Fish
• This is a mid-century hand-blown
piece, made by Venetian glass artisan
workshops during the 1960's and 1970's.
• The styling points that make it Murano:
1) This is a two part construction. The
"ribbon" joining the base to the fish is
typical form used in Venice.
2) The hand-pressed, heavy glass base
shaped with flutes or ruffles is a hallmark
of mid-century Venetian work.
3) The "lobes" of the base are irregular,
meaning they were hand formed rather
then a set mold.
4) The is a solid, hand-molded lead-
crystal or soda-lime glass rather than a
hollow factory piece.
