Lot #85: Reclaimed Vintage Leadlight Windows

The pair of nearly antique, traditional, leadlight casement lattice windows.Leadlights,leaded lightsorleaded windowsare decorative windows made of small sections of glass supported inleadcames. The pair here are from the 1930s. They were pulled from a house being demolished in Kerrisdale, and used on the house built in it's place. The hinge hardware was updated at that time, and they were painted, but the windows otherwise remained the same. Eventually, that house too was scheduled for demolition. A friend was thoughtful enough to remove the windows the best he could and saved them from the dump. He set them in his backyard where they were utilised as cover for seedlings in his garden for 2 years, but then HIS house was being demolished, and he was moving into a condo. I snapped them up, but haven't yet put them to use. They deserve better... They have cracks through a couple of the quarries (the individual window segments), and one of them is bowed from having laid down too long without being rotated, so I can't imagine using them as functional windows... They might be great for a garage, greenhouse, art, etc.The single window is also a traditional leadlight piece, likely from the same era. This one is actually missing one of it's pieces (second from the bottom on the left) and the bottom right panel is cracked. So, again, not a good window for the house... They're all beautifully, naturally distressed. Paint is peeling and chipping in places, the wood is exposed in spots, etc.Hopefully someone can upcycle these beautiful windows! They're becoming harder and harder to get as we send more to the landfil everyday... Needs cleaning. Bring packing material.
