All masks were brought here after extensive travels in their respective countries. I'll do my best to give some information on each - forgive me if I make any mistakes. In fact, please note that the following information is based on what I've been told, not on any expert advice or thorough research. Descriptions follow the order of photographs.1. Kenyan Tribal Jambo Mask. Vintage.Hand carved and hand painted by a village craftsman. I believe this was made from teak, and It's carved from a single piece of wood.2. The Sri Lankan Dance Mask of Mal Gurulu Raksha. Likely made from balsa wood, like kaduru or snakewood. The mask is the portrait of a mythical sun bird eating a cobra. According to Hindu and Buddhist mythology, it is said that the Hindu God Vishnu would sometimes ride this bird. The mask is said to bring protection and good luck. 3. Malacca Malaysian Tribal Folk Art Mask. Hand painted design. Type of wood unknown. Beautifully craved mask and incredibly smooth. Quite stunning to see in person.4. Split colour mask made from coconut. Unfortunately, I can't remember a thing about this one. The featers are real, as is the beadwork. 5. Final Mask. This one is also from the African continent. More specifically, it might be from the Congo, but I can't say for sure. It's at least vintage-age, and it's clearly handcrafted. 1 quill with 3 traditional tools made by hand as well. Bring packing material. One mask has a chip out of the inside of it (see pics). Otherwise these are in good shape - any wear is commensurate with age.Note: the glow behind the masks was to help clarify where any holes were and to demonstrate their depth. They do not have built-in backlighting.
