Vintage DJ Kaufman Men's Plaid Jacket 1940s Blazer One of a Kind DJ Kaufman The Mans Store Washington's Premier Menswear Shop circa 1900Vintage Men's Plaid Jacket with DJ Kaufman Label, DJ Kaufman The Mans Store, Blazer 1940s, One of a Kind.One of a kind vintage jacket with DJ Kaufman label. I have not found any vintage clothing, even photos by this name or maker. DJ Kaufman was high end, and well known in the early 1900s, with at the time, over the top advertising that has been scanned and available to view, but little else following this era. In its day, before Raleighs expanded to chain status and other specialty retailers moved in on the field, Kaufman's was among full spectrum department store leaders. In later years, the store leaned toward "mod" clothing, alienating traditionalist clients. (I'd like to see some of these, but there are no examples to be found, except this one so far.)This jacket I suspect was one of "those" garments. There is not anything like it anywhere. I am guessing 1940s, but maybe a 50s piece, I am not sure. The jacket is in excellent condition and shows virtually no signs of wear. The fabric seems to be a kind of wool blend, it is pretty light weight and has a soft woven texture. Two back flaps, interesting detailing as shown. There's something very Katherine Hepburn about this. Something she would wear, belted, with high rise, cuffed khaki pants ...Chest: 20" across flatLength: 30"D.J. Kaufman Inc., founded in 1897 established another "uptown" branch in 1930. It was remodeled and enlarged in 1951.Sometime around 1980, Kaufman's closed its doors at three locations.
