Lot #57: Vintage Men's 80s Madras Men's Blazer Patchwork Plaid Jacket Huntington Clothiers

Vintage 80s, Madras Men's Blazer, Patchwork Blue, Green and Plaid Jacket, Huntington Clothiers Label, Imported Fabric, Made in USA, Excellent Vintage Condition. Rare, I have not found another like it as of this listing.Based on information and examples I have found on this company, I am dating this jacket to the 80s. It is in exceptional condition and appears to have been worn only briefly. Maybe it didn't fit anymore, but the person who owned this jacket loved it enough to bring it to Florida from their home town in Columbus, Ohio anyway.There is a small spot under the label shown in photo, and one very small spot under the bottom left pocket, that I only saw when I started measuring. Also very light "foxing" upper right shoulder that can be seen if you look very closely, shown in photo. Fully lined in a taffeta like fabric, two front patch pockets with flaps, breast pocket and two inner pockets.Also, it is a two button jacket which at the earliest days of the company was strictly taboo.Shoulder to shoulder: 19" across flatChest: 24"Length: 32"Sleeve length: 26"Huntington Clothiers was headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and in business for about 20 years when they closed their doors in 1995. Huntington was known for its moderately-priced Ivy League style clothing, that mirrored J. Press high end clothiers. Its seasonal mail-order catalogs promoted classic Ivy style 3-button suits and sport coats, button-down oxford style dress shirts, and regimental ties.Here is an advertisement for a Madras jacket by Huntington in one of their mail order catalogues, date unknown:Indian Summer ... Madras, of course. Handwoven pure Indian cotton, our Madras plaid sport coat is resplendent in sun soaked shades (colors noted). It is clearly a classic whose time has come again.
