<div>This painting is intriguing. On the reverse side is the piece that was originally featured in the frame, Nu Assis dans un Paysage. This has been written along the stretcher, along with the artist's name and date of execution of the painting, as shown. On the front, is this rendering of a lady in a pink slip. These pieces were painted c. 1930 by Pellan when he was still in Paris and was just beginning the transition to the modernist abstractions for which he became best known. The painting shows that journey very well as the lady on both sides of the canvas looks to be fading from realism into abstraction as you move from front to back of the perspectives. The label on the front of the frame was scratched off as shown, probably when the canvas was flipped over. Huge Yardage of Fine Natural Linen Fabric 2/3

The bird looks to be a glossy Ibis which is found in Spain/Portugal and other areas, including North Africa and the MIddle East. These tiles in a mosaic form are almost an inch thick which is what sets them out as floor tiles. They are hand crafted and hand painted as you would expect. We especially love that you can see the makers' fingerprints on some of them. They are very heavy for size of course.
