Lot #27: Antique Splint Baskets,3 Small, 1 Large

Nice collection of splint baskets. All in fair to good shape. All have one or two breaks in a splint here and there. Expected to happen with baskets of this age and common use. Still beautiful, still useful. The larger basket is 6 1/2 tall and 11 1/2 across, it is round on top and square on bottom with feet. Very beautiful design. The wrapped splint on the edge has a break as shown . Otherwise good condition. Then there is a small dark blue buttocks or egg basket. It is 4 1/2 on the tall side this actually in very good condition and very sturdy, no damage that I can see. Then the larger of the 2 small round baskets is 3 7/8 tall and 6 1/2 across. I think they call this a cheese basket due to the larger square holes on bottom? It is in good shape other than a partial break in the bent wood handle.. it doesnt go all the way through and has remained stable in the 15 years Ive had it. There is one small break in one of the rim wraps. Really a nice basket. And lastly, my favorite and I believe the oldest basket of the bunch is 4 tall and about 5 7/8 across, its top rim wrap has a few breaks causing the handle to be a little loose. But this has great patina and a beautiful look. I will do my best to picture the flaws Ive mentioned Lu camera doesnt do close up work but if you enlarge the photos you will see more clearly. I make them all sound much worse than they are .take a look
