This is a first concerted effort came from a few dedicated women and men at the SixNations Reserve in Canada in the late 1960s. (Near Brantford, Ontario). The late Eldaand Oliver Smith along with Sylvia Smith, Dee Martin, and Karen Williams began tocreate a form of pottery which became known as Mohawk Pottery. While using anelectric wheel and kiln, they produced pots which were Haudenosauneein designs yetmodern in function. These artisans developed a brown wash which resembled the colorsof the ancient pots and studied the geometric design elements to decorate their pots. Intime they also began to use the clay as a canvas, incising into the clay, designs whichsymbolically represented events in their history or meaningful values such as a tree ofpeace or clan animal. Others such as Darlene Smith, have now joined this original studioknown as Kanyengeh Pottery and a few potters have developed their own style ofcreating in clay.  There are 9 tea/coffee cups and 11saucers.&nbsp;<div> This vintage tea/coffee cups andsaucers manufactured by Macbeth-Evans and are beautifully translucent.&nbsp;</div><div> Petalware was created to combinethe look of fine china with the strengthof glass.&nbsp;</div><div> Vintage from the 1940s&nbsp;</div><div> The cups are ribbed and the lightshines through. Faustite beaded Sterling Necklace 

 The outer metal used for decoration,could be coin silver, but it has not beentested.&nbsp;<div> It is decorated with various ribbonsproviding flowing geometric patternsthroughout. This is a traditional Andalusian blue,cobalt glaze, on a red medium firedclay. Note where glaze "crawled" oninner lip. This happened during thefiring, and is not a chip. Vase glazed with white slip applied using the hakeme technique, characterized by thick brush strokes with a rough finish. The glaze shows iron spots blooming through from gas kiln firing. The vase depicts an ink-style illustration of a man carrying items beneath a sparse tree and birds flying overhead. Natural earthy tones with subtle speckles on a creamy white base.

Japanese Hakeme glazed Vase with Hand-Painted Mountain Scene

 Hakeme means "brush stroke" inJapanese but it is a technique thatwas first developed in Korea as ameans of adhering white slip to aclay body.&nbsp;<div> It is thetechnique of applying a coat of slipwith a hard bristled brush to a pieceof pottery. Brushes can be made froma variety of materials such as broomcorn or rice straw.&nbsp;</div><div> Such extra thick bristles apply thedecorative slip in a more harsh finish.&nbsp;</div><div> This piece is not signed, or marked.&nbsp;</div><div> This is thrown, altered and formedwith a red stoneware clay. Then theHakeme glaze is applied, anddecorated on top with a man walkingthrough the mountains with birdsabove his head.
