He fought as a soldier in the First World War along with his older brother, James. He served with the Canadian Overseas Regimental Force in 1915. In 1918, he was a soldier at the 4th Canadian General Hospital, in Basingstoke. He emigrated to Canada, and arrived at Quebec 4th Sep 1927  shortly after the first appearance of the Group of Seven's art in the 1920's He was a SIMPSON'S artist prevalent from the 1930's to the 1960's, the department store enlisting the works of listed and well known Canadian painters and selling them through their department stores. About the ArtistCid was born and raised in a small fishing village on Terceira Island, Acores. She immigrated to Canada, Toronto when she was 13, lived there until 2020, when she moved to Madoc in eastern Ontario. Cid is a self taught mixed media abstract and non-representational artist. She first picked up a paint brush in 2008 and has experimented with a variety of painting mediums, surfaces and styles. Cid founded Canadas first creative arts charity for people living with cancer in 2010, (The Art for Cancer foundation), which she ran until 2020. Cid has exhibited her work at a variety of venues over the past 10 years. Her art is held in private collections throughout North America and Europe. She is a member of The Art Tour Collective, The Federation of Canadian Artists, The Belleville Art Association, The Madoc Chamber of Commerce and the Tweed and Area Arts Council.
