He studied in Berlin, under Lovis Corinth and Hermann Struck, and in Paris at the cole des Beaux-Arts and Acadmie Julian. At the Beaux-Arts, he was given encouragement by Renoir, and at the Julian, where his contemporaries included Canadian students A.Y. Jackson and John Lyman, he studied under Tony Robert-Fleury, Jules Joseph Lefebvre and Jean-Paul Laurens. Upon completing his studies, Goldberg taught for eight years, first at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, and then at Berlin's Academie der Knste, where he was chosen to succeed Corinth as professor of drawing and painting. students A.Y. Sound<div>Gallery label on back</div><div><br></div><div>Artist Susan Owen Kagan, well known within the Edmonton Jewish community, and an established presence in Canada and the Alberta art world, is the visionary behind the monument ( &nbsp;'Vessel of Souls' - Edmonton's Monument to remember the atrocities of the Holocaust)&nbsp; it stands tall at the Alberta Legislature Grounds.&nbsp; Susan's creative process took place in her studio, although it is difficult to imagine the memorial occupying a space other than the Alberta Legislature.In 2002 I was commissioned by the Edmonton Jewish Federation to design and build a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It was a challenging task, as I was asked to create a meaningful and lasting work of art which also conformed physically and aesthetically to the strict building codes of the Alberta Legislature, the memorials permanent site.<br></div>                                <br>Measurements: Frame 30.5&#34; x 22.5&#34; with painting 22.5&#34; x 17.5&#34;
