The death of King George V, quickly followed by the abdication of his son, Edward VIII, prompted some quick re-designs, but the Bank took this opportunity to make some very formative changes. The portraits were limited to the King for all the common notes and Laurier and MacDonald for the big denominations. A precursor to official bilingualism, government legislation decreed that Canadas new bank notes feature French and English, changing the typographic approach. The portraits were moved to the centre, which made a symmetrical design appropriate to bilingual wording and kept the Kings face safely away from the inky index fingers of bank clerks. The designs were now more uniform across the series and a new, clearer colour was chosen for each denomination - a familiar colour scheme that, with variations, has since been used on all our note series.The rear views of the notes remained fundamentally the same as the 1935 series with changes in colours and placements of numbers to bring more uniformity and clearer identity. The tight schedules created by the abdication meant that there was little the Bank could do to produce a completely new series. <div></div><div>1973 Canada One Dollar - The Last Paper Dollar<br></div><div><br></div>The $1 note was issued in June 1974 and printed by both CBN and BABN. The back features a tugboat in the middle of a broken log boom on the Ottawa River below Parliament Hill. The vignette was based on a 1963 photograph by Malak and was engraved by C. Gordon Yorke. The tugboat, the Missinaibi hauled logs up the river for almost twenty years.  It was purchased by the City of Hull in 1984 and now sits on the site from which the photograph that made it famous was taken: beside the Ottawa River behind the Canadian Museum of Civilization. This was the last $1 note issued by the Bank. With the introduction of the $1 coin in 1987, the issuing of $1 notes ended in 1989.                <br>Condition: Vintage Circulated

The lot contains two framed prints featuring watercolor scenes of Vancouver beach landscapes. One print depicts autumn trees by the water with mountains in the background, titled "Spanish Banks." The other shows a moody beach scene with a prominent rock formation, titled "Locarno Beach." Each print is single matted with a blue-gray mat and housed in a gold-colored metal frame with glass. The prints have clear artist signatures and handwritten titles underneath the images.
