"Robj" founded in 1908 by Jean Born. The company's name was an anagram/abbreviation of the name of its founder, J. Bor. In the late teens and early 20s, Robj focussed on decorative arts. Born ran a shop in Paris selling porcelain figurines and art objects. In house designs were outsourced to famous manufacturers including Svres, Villeroy & Boch, Limoges, and several French art glass furnaces. Robj won a bronze medal at the 1925 Art Deco Expo (Exposition Internationale des Arts Dcoratifs et Industriels Modernes). The company actively promoted designers of Art Deco and Cubism. Between 1927 and 1931, Robj sponsored and hosted an annual competition to discover and highlight new designers.
