Sara  Gersowitz 1920-2007
While working as a school teacher in the 1940s, Gersovitz enrolled in art classes at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and later studied printmaking with well-known Albert Dumouchel, Yves Gaucher as well as at the GRAFF workshop. Although her production included painting and later collage, she was recognized for printmaking incorporating various techniques ranging from woodblock, linocut to photoseriagraphy, etching and aquatint. Her work was described as highly personal and stylistically diverse. She became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy, serving on its national council and regularly participating in annual exhibitions. Gersovitz also exhibited in numerous national and international printmaking biennials. Her works are found in private and public collections throughout Canada. including the Musee nationale du Quebec and the National Gallery of Canada as well as major collections throughout the world. Over 300 prints were acquired by the Bibliotheque et Archive nationale du Quebec in 1996 covering three decades of her production.
