As a boy he watched his uncle, noted Canadaian artist William St. Thomas Smith create watercolour paintings of Ontario's landscape and waterscape settings. He studied art under Mary Cox at the School of Fine Arts, New York and under George Reid, J. W. Beatty and William Cruikshank at the Ontario College of Art from 1910-14.He worked in both oil and watercolour and is best known for his coastal, harbour and marine paintings. He was an active artist in Gloucester, Massachusetts and in Ingersoll, Toronto and Halifax in Canada. He retired to Halifax in 1958 .In 1946 he established the Payne School of Fine Art in Toronto. He exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy. His work is in most major collections in Canada and the United States, as well as many private and public collections around the world. His wife Emma Solvason was a painter in her own right and had exhibited along side her husband on numerous occasions.Gordon passed away in 1983 at the age of 93. <br />Measurements: 24.5" x 20.5"</p>

It was described in Aladdin advertising material as, "A startlingly beautiful lamp base, and pedestal material, which resembles many of the semiprecious mineralites in texture, and has much of the softness and tone of <span style="background-color: #ffc107;">mineral</span>(genuine )-the only color in which it is available."Originally Alacite glass contained Uranium oxide as a coloring agent, but its use was banned by the government in 1942 because of the development of atomic weapons in the war effort. You will often hear the terms "old formula" and " new formula" used in reference to lamps made of Alacite. The old formula contained the Uranium oxide, and will glow a yellow green color under a black light, while the new formula without the Uranium oxide will not. Uranium oxide was also a constituent of yellow moonstone and some green Washington Drape lamps. Gorgeous clear whale figurine with graphic lines and dots sandwiched inside the lucite. Made by worldfamous Brazilian artist/designer Abraham Palatnik (1928-2020). He was an artist, inventor and pioneer of kinechromatic art in the 1950s and 1960s. Kinechromatic art is a form of art in which the image, particularly in reference to the color perceived by the viewer, changes due to some form of movement. Created during the 1970s, Palatnik's Artemis collection featured a variety of modernist, albeit whimsical, lucite sculptures, each with sleek, flat silhouettes. This vase is made of vibrant ochre-yellow glass with a smooth, shiny surface. It features a rounded base that tapers inward before flaring out to form a wide, curved lip. The glass is translucent, evident when held up to light, revealing its rich color depth. The base shows a perfect pontil mark. It has a clean, elegant geometric form typical of Erik Hoglund's experimental Scandinavian art glass works.

Perfect&nbsp; &nbsp;pontil on base.<div><br></div><div>Erik Hglund was a Swedish artist known for his experimentative work with amber glass. His glass bottles, chandeliers, and candelabras are characterized by their delicate, geometric designs. For example, in Chandelier (1970), the artist balanced cup-like glass fixtures on top of a spherical, metal structure. Born in 1932 in Karlskrona, Sweden, he studied sculpture at the University of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm. At age 25, Hglund became the youngest artist to ever receive the Lunning Prize, awarded annually to up-and-coming Scandinavian designers. He worked as a designer for Boda Glassworks from 19531973, quickly becoming celebrated for his strong use of color and embossed animal designs. Hglund died in 1998 in Sweden. Today, his work is held in the collections of the Blekinge museum in Karlskrona, the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, and the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum in New York, among others.<br></div><br>Measurements: 8&#34; x 6&#34;
