  Kwanlin Dun First Nation "Richard Shorty" Art Print "Salmon" "Chrome Framed Under Glass"&nbsp; Double Mat<div><br><div>&nbsp;Richard Shorty passed away on February 7, 2024 after a battle with cancer. Richard was born in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in 1959 and belonged to the Kwanlin Dun First Nation, Northern Tutchone. In 1978, Richard moved to Vancouver, and had been splitting his time between the Lower Mainland and Whitehorse ever since. In the early 1980s, Richard started painting West Coast Native design and soon developed his own distinct style, using the wildlife form of the animal and adding his native design on the inside of the form. This style blended his traditional roots and with a contemporary flair. Richards versatility and creativity were truly exceptional, and evident in the drums, paddles, masks, boxes, rattles, and paintings he produced. We were blessed to work with Richard for almost thirty years, and to assist him in sharing his culture with people from all over the world.
