Lot #10: VINTAGE WOODEN BALINESE BARONG MASK

This hand-carved and painted wooden mask is an expressive wall sculpture of the mythological character Barong, King of the Spirits, leader of the hosts of good in the mythology of Bali, Indonesia.

Traditionally used in Balinese rituals, keeping a Barong mask at home follows the notion that this mask is a beautiful home for the spirit and transcendental energies to dwell in, or as a medium for ancestral spirits to visit the physical world, as it represents the divine beings or energies in a physical form. Sacred masks were traditionally used in spiritual ceremonies as well for protection of the home.

This is in good vintage condition, with no damage to note and only wear appropriate to age, use and other marks from being handmade.

This has been in a lovely home for decades.
