Antique Yuan English China

During the Victorian era hand carved cameos often displayed scenes or characters from Greek and Roman mythology. This shell cameo refers to the myth of Eros/Cupid and Psyche (a mortal woman that he fell in love with). After many trials and tribulations Zeus allowed Eros to fly Psyche to Mount Olympus where she became an immortal. The silver frame of the cameo is stamped 800, which indicates that the frame is 80% pure silver. The sparkly bits embedded in the silver frame are marcasites. The brooch has a bale which allows the piece to be worn as a pendant. The large facetted amethyst measures 13 mm by 10 mm by 8 mm (deep). The little diamond at the top has a 2 mm diameter. The bale, plus gem stones, measures 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length. The bale hinges open to allow the piece to be used as an enhancer with pearls or a thicker necklace. The hinged sterling bangle is engraved with a foliage design on one side and weighs 25 grams. The hallmarks on the inside show the maker's mark (JS), the lion passant (the mark for British sterling), the assay city (Chester, and the date mark (H). Necklace featuring alternating large faux baroque pearls approximately 5/8 inch (2 cm) in diameter with intricate gold tone filigree beads. The chain is gold tone with twisted oval links. The necklace measures 37 inches (94.5 cm) in length. The clasp is a gold tone spring ring, with a small tag signed "1928". Pearls have an off-white luster with irregular shape, typical of baroque style.
