Struck by the Soho Mint in Birmingham, this coin is notable as the first British coin produced using steam-powered machinery, introduced by industrialist Matthew Boulton.This hefty copper coin features the iconic seated Britannia design on the reverse, with a trident in one hand and a shield in the other, resting by the seashore. The date 1797 is boldly stamped at the bottom, and the inscription BRITANNIA encircles the design.
