Lot #54: Two French Etuis

Two etuis, both from France, both gold over silver. The kit on the right, in a much scuffed leather case with gold stamped floral and link border, has silk lining to the top and a pale velvet bed with defined wells for each tool. These include scissors, a punch, a needle case, and a bodkin; the thimble is missing. Each item is intricately embellished, with hallmarks we weren't able to decipher, and bodkin is stamped France. As noted in another lot, carat weight stamps weren't compulsory until the 1920s, so it's not uncommon for this to be omitted. Push button clasp, metal hinges, stamped back in quilted pattern, where we also see a stamp indicating France. C. 1875.
