Lot #110: Antique WH Goss Teapot With Arms of Montreal and The Dominion of Canada

This early teapot has the printed backstamp of William Henry Goss, the British potter known for developing the souvenir trade in crested china. One side of the tea pot has the first Coat of Arms of Montreal used from 1833 until 1938 with a red saltire, a rose representing the population of English heritage, a thistle for the Scots, a sprig of clover for the Irish, and a beaver for the French along with the motto of the city of Montreal "Concordia Salus", the Latin phrase meaning "well-being through harmony". The other side has an early Coat of Arms Of Canada used from 1873 to 1907. The teapot is approximately 6 inches high and 6.5 inches from the tip of the spout to the outside tip of the handle.
