Obverse: Features the "Uncrowned Portrait" of King George VI facing left. Inscribed GEORGIVS VI D: G: REX ET IND: IMP: (George VI, by the Grace of God, King and Emperor of India).
Reverse: A large "V" (standing for both the Roman numeral for 5 and "Victory") superimposed over a flaming torch. Flanked by the date 1945. The inscription reads CANADA and 5 CENTS. This coin boasts a hi9ghl;y unusual coded message for WWII: Encircling the rim on the reverse is a secret message in Morse Code. It reads: "We Win When We Work Willingly." (all dots and dashes are still legible).
This 1945 "Victory Nickel" is arguably the most famous and recognizable five-cent piece in Canadian history. Struck to commemorate the end of World War II, it is a masterpiece of both design and wartime necessity. Because nickel was a vital material for the war effort (armor plating and machinery), the Mint shifted to tombac (a brass alloy) in 1942, and finally to chrome-plated steel (as in this unusual coin) in 1944. This coin was struck in Ottawa during the final year of the war to celebrate the triumph of the Allied forces.

The center features a stylized floral motif. Lettering in Arabic (Malayan): سڤراتس روڤيـه. Lettering in Javanese: ꦱꦥꦫꦱꦠꦱ ꦫꦥꦪ꧈ ("One hundredth Rupiah") Struck at the Utrecht Mint in the Netherlands. It features the Mercury Staff (Mint mark) and the Seahorse (Mint Master mark for J.P. van Rijk).
The 1914 Netherlands East Indies 1 cent is a beautiful example of colonial coinage struck under Queen Wilhelmina. This series is particularly notable for its dual-language design, reflecting the administrative and cultural intersection of the Netherlands and its territories in the Malay Archipelago (modern-day Indonesia). By 1914, the Netherlands East Indies was a primary source of rubber, tobacco, and spices for the global market. These bronze cents were minted in the Netherlands and shipped to the East Indies to facilitate trade in the colonial economy.

Rare French Revolutionary Twelve Deniers (One Sol) Coin from Year 4 of the Revolution (1792) with rare Royal Portrait as of King of the French (“Roi de François”). Louis XVI was King of France (“Roi de France”) from 1774 to September 1791, when the Revolutionary Council gave him the more populist and republican title of “King of the French” (“Roi de Français”). Louis was then arrested in September 1792, and guillotined in January 1793. This Twelve Denier coin was issued in Year 4 (1792), with the even rarer spelling “Roi de François”. “(o”, not “a”). The Obverse shows a bust of LOUIS XVI draped to the left, bareheaded, hair tied. Lettering: LOUIS XVI ROI DES FRANCOIS . (“Louis XVI King of the French”). The Reverse shows the Fasces (symbol of government) topped with a Phrygian cap (symbol of liberty and the French Revolution) between two oak branches. Lettering: LA NATION LA LOI LE ROI 12 D (“The Nation. The Law. The King. Twelve Deniers”). The Date once is given twice: in both the Gregorian and Revolutionary Calendars. The last digit of the date in the Gregorian Calendar (1792) is somewhat obscured. But the date in the French Revolutionary Calendar is legible as “L’AN 4 DE LA LIB”. (Year Four of the Liberty). Bronze Coin.

Obverse: Features a double-headed battle axe, known as the Francisque, which was the personal emblem of Marshal Philippe Pétain, leader of the Vichy state collaborating with the the German occupiers. The axe is flanked by two ears of wheat, symbolizing agricultural labor. The inscription reads ÉTAT FRANÇAIS (French State), notably replacing the traditional "République Française."
Reverse: Features the denomination 1 FRANC flanked by two oak branches, representing strength. At the top is the new national motto adopted by the Vichy regime: TRAVAIL • FAMILLE • PATRIE ("Work, Family, Fatherland"), which replaced "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" during the German occupation and French collaboration. The date 1942 is at the bottom, flanked by the Paris Mint cornucopia and the wing of the Chief Engraver.
The 1942 French 1 Franc coin is a somber and historically significant issue from the era of the Vichy State (État Français) during the German occupation of World War II. It represents a total departure from the traditional republican symbols that had defined French currency for decades. By 1942, nickel and copper were prioritized for German military production. As a result, French coinage was struck in Aluminum, a lightweight and inexpensive metal that felt almost like a toy compared to the heavy silver and bronze coins of the past. This "Francisque" series was an deliberate attempt to instill the German occupation values of "Work" and "Fatherland". Following the liberation of France, these coins were replaced by republican designs, though many were kept as artifacts of the occupation years.

Reverse: Features the denomination 10 CENTIMES in the center, surrounded by a heavy laurel wreath. The national motto LIBERTE · EGALITE · FRATERNITE is inscribed around the rim. The date 1873 sits at the bottom, flanked by the mint marks.
The 1873 French 10 centimes coin is a notable issue from the early years of the Third Republic, featuring the "Ceres" design. This large bronze coin was part of the transition period following the collapse of the Second Empire and the return to republican iconography. In 1873, France was paying off the massive war indemnity to Prussia and stabilizing its new republican government.

Reverse: Features a large Imperial Eagle with its wings spread, perched upon a thunderbolt. The eagle is surrounded by the inscription EMPIRE FRANÇAIS and the denomination DIX CENTIMES.
The 1856 French Ten Centimes coin is a hallmark of the Second Empire under Napoleon III. This large bronze issue represents a period of significant monetary reform and imperial grandeur, featuring a design that asserted the Emperor’s authority across the French domestic economy. By 1856, Napoleon III had fully established the Second Empire, after his "self-coup" of 1851 (elected President in 1848, he declared himself "Emperor" in 1852!). These coins were part of a massive decimalization effort that replaced the worn, mismatched copper coins of previous regimes with a standardized, high-quality bronze series.

Obverse: An idealized "Laureate Head" portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, laurel wreath in her hair. designed by Leonard C. Wyon. The inscription reads “VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA. CANADA.” (“Victoria, by grace of God, Queen”)
Reverse: The denomination “ONE CENT” and the date “1859” are centered within a beaded circle. Encircling this is a continuous chain of 16 maple leaves on a vine—a design known to collectors as the "Provincial Leaves" reverse.
This coin is a cornerstone of any Canadian collection. Known as the "Large Cent," it was the last penny issued for the United Province of Canada before the 1867 Confederation created the modern nation.
Unlike later Canadian pennies, this 1859 issue was significantly lighter (4.54g compared to the later 5.67g standard). It was produced at the Royal Mint in London to establish the decimal system in the province. (Thus, the decimal "cent" (one hundredth), and not the previous British "penny").
Because the harder bronze alloy caused the steel dies to wear down rapidly, the 1859 cent is famous for having over 400 minor die varieties. This example is hold over the Queen's head, likely to wear as a medallion or necklace.

Obverse: Features a Hexagon (six-sided polygon) with loops and knots. The Obverse text contains the name and titles of Ṭaghāy Tīmūr. Because he was a descendant of Genghis Khan’s brother, his legitimacy was tied to his Mongol lineage.
Reverse: Features a Hexagon (six-sided polygon) with loops and knots. The Reverse text typically contains the Kalimah (Islamic profession of faith), signifying that the Mongol rulers had fully embraced Islam by this period. The name of the city where the coin was struck is usually found in the small segments between the hexagon and the rim.
This Ilkhanid Two Dirhams Coin is a fascinating artifact from a chaotic period of Mongolian-Persian history. It was struck between AD 1337 and AD 1353 under Ṭaghāy Tīmūr (also known as Togha Temür), the last major claimant to the Ilkhanid throne after the central authority of the Mongol Empire in Persia began to fracture in the mid-14th century. Ṭaghāy Tīmūr (died December 1353) was a claimant to the throne of the Ilkhanate in the mid-14th century. Of the many individuals who attempted to become Il khan after the death of Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan in 1337, TṬaghāy Tīmūr was the last major candidate who was of the house of Genghis Khan. This Ilkhanid silver coin represents the later synthesis of Mongol power and Persian Islamic culture. The Ilkhanid dynasty was famous for its complex and beautiful geometric coin designs. Unlike the simple circles found on modern coins, this Dirham uses nested polygons to organize its text. Like the Umayyad One Fals coin offered in Lot #668, this Ilkhanid Two Dirhams Coin was struck by hand, resulting in a unique, slightly irregular shape for every specimen. The melt value of this Silver is about 4.50, but its numismatic value is much greater.

Obverse: Features a large escutcheon (shield) containing the Belgian Lion (rampant lion facing left). To the left the French "BELGIQUE", to the right the Flemish "BELGIË" (Belgium).
Reverse: Features the Crowned Monogram of King Leopold III (reigned 1934 until abdication in 1951) which consists of two stylized, mirrored letter "L"s with a superimposed "III". The monogram divides the denomination 1 F. The date 1943 is positioned at the very bottom.
This coin features a blend of royal heraldry and agricultural motifs, common in Belgian design, but struck in industrial zinc due to the wartime shortage of nickel and silver. While other wartime centime denominations (the 5, 10, and 25 centimes) featured a hole to save metal, the 1 Franc was struck as a solid planchet. Unlike the early wartime coins that omitted the King's image or monogram to remain "neutral" under occupation, this series retained the royal monogram. Zinc was used as an emergency material, making these coins highly susceptible to environmental damage.

Obverse: Features the Crowned Coat of Arms of Zeeland, which depicts the top half of lion rampant rising out of the sea waves. (The Dutch see the Lion as "emerging", not "sinking" or "drowning"). The shield is crowned with a large, ornate crown. The motto LUCTOR ET EMERGO is inscribed around the upper rim of the shield. This "Struggling Lion" symbol represents the province's constant battle against the sea, and "emerging" by reclaiming ocean floor through dikes.
Reverse: Features the name of the province and the date in three lines: ZEE / LAN / DIA / 1736. A "Tower" mintmark is at the top of the coin, indicated the Middleburg mint.
This copper duit is one of the most recognizable provincial issues of the Dutch Republic, minted at the Middelburg facility. In 1736, Zeeland was a powerhouse of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). In 1736, the Dutch Republic was a global maritime power. These duits were used not only in the Netherlands, but were exported throughout its colonial maritime empire, especially to the East Indies (modern-day Indonesia) to serve as local currency.

Green Cloth. "Raiders of the Mohawk: The Story of Butler's Rangers" is a historical adventure novel by the Canadian author Orlo Miller, first published in 1960 by Macmillan of Canada as part of their acclaimed "Great Stories of Canada" series. The narrative is set during the American Revolutionary War and follows the exploits of a young protagonist named Daniel Cass, who joins the Loyalist military unit known as Butler's Rangers, led by the controversial and formidable Colonel John Butler. Miller provides a detailed and often gritty account of the unit’s guerrilla warfare tactics, their deep alliance with the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy under leaders like Joseph Brant, and their harrowing raids throughout the Mohawk Valley and the frontiers of New York and Pennsylvania. The book is noted for presenting a specifically Canadian Loyalist perspective on the conflict, illustrating the intense personal loyalties and brutal hardships faced by those who remained faithful to the British Crown.

Obverse: Features a stylized Viking Longship, sailing to the left on a wavy sea. Above the ship is the word NEDERLAND and the date 1941. This design was intended to downplay Dutch nationalism and Independence, avoiding the portrait of Queen Wilhelmina, who was in exile in Ottawa, and instead celebrate and foster Germanic and Nordic associations and origins.
Reverse: Features the denomination 25 CENT in the center. The background is decorated with four large, stylized Tulips in a cross-like formation, representing the Dutch floral heritage. Mint Marks include the Mercury Staff (Utrecht Mint) and the Acorn (Mint Master mark for W.J. van Heteren, who operated under the occupation).
The 1941 Netherlands 25 cent (or "kwartje") in zinc is a somber but fascinating "emergency" issue. Struck during the German occupation of World War II, these coins replaced the traditional silver issues as the precious metal was hoarded or seized for the war effort. This was the first year of the zinc emergency coinage. Because zinc is a highly reactive and soft metal, these coins were never meant to be permanent currency. They were a tool of economic necessity during a time of extreme scarcity. Despite the ostensibly "neutral" design, many Dutch citizens viewed these zinc coins with disdain, often hiding their silver coins as a form of silent resistance.

Reverse: Features a large Imperial Eagle with its wings spread, perched upon a thunderbolt. The eagle is surrounded by the inscription EMPIRE FRANÇAIS and the denomination DIX CENTIMES. Obverse: Features the State Emblem of the USSR with a hammer and sickle over the globe. Crucially, the wheat stalks are wrapped in 11 ribbons, representing the 11 republics that officially made up the Union at the start of that administrative period. The letters CCCP (SSSR) are prominently displayed in a curved fashion at the bottom.
Reverse: Features the denomination 20 inside a central hexagonal shield. Below the shield is the word КОПЕЕК (Kopecks), and the date 1946 is positioned at the very bottom. The shield is flanked by a decorative arrangement of oak leaves and a wheat ear, a hallmark of the 1935–1957 design series.
The 1946 USSR 20 Kopecks is a poignant piece of numismatic history, struck during the first full year of peace following World War II (known in the Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War). It features the "11-ribbon" State Emblem, a design specific to the era before the post-war expansion of the Soviet Republics was fully reflected in the coinage. This was a period of intense post-war recovery. Because resources were being funneled into rebuilding cities like Stalingrad and Minsk, the quality of the coinage can vary; some planchets (the blank metal discs) show signs of the era's industrial strain. The 11-ribbon design is particularly interesting to collectors because it was replaced shortly after in 1948 by the 16-ribbon version to reflect the newly incorporated republics.

This aluminum medal is a space enthusiast's treasure. Struck to commemorate the July 20, 1969, Lunar Landing, it was produced by the Wellings Mint in Rexdale (now part of Toronto), Ontario. While more expensive versions were made in silver and bronze, this aluminum edition was widely distributed in Canada, often given to school children to mark the historic "giant leap for mankind."

Obverse: Features the initials "RF" (République Française) flanking a central hole. Above the hole sits a Phrygian cap (the Liberty cap) adorned with a cockade. The design is framed by a wreath composed of an oak branch (strength) and a laurel branch (peace). The signature EM LINDAUER is positioned along the lower rim.
Reverse: Features the denomination 5 CENTIMES above the central hole, flanked by two olive branches. The national motto LIBERTE • EGALITE • FRATERNITE is inscribed around the rim. The date 1916 sits at the bottom, flanked by the cornucopia (Paris Mint) and the torch (Chief Engraver Henry Patey).
The 1916 French 5 centimes coin is a quintessential "type" coin of the Third Republic, featuring the "Lindauer" design. This year is particularly significant as it represents the first major production period for the modern "holed" series, which was introduced during World War I to save on copper-nickel and make the coins easily identifiable by touch in low-light wartime conditions. In 1916, France was in the depths of the Great War. The move to this cupro-nickel "holed" design was a practical response to the scarcity of metals. This was the second year of issue for the 5 centimes Lindauer, following a very limited mintage in 1914. Because the 1914 and 1915 issues are extremely rare or non-existent in circulation, the 1916 issue is often the earliest "holed" centime found in most collections.

The shield features a golden key (symbolizing Cuba's position as the "Key to the Gulf") between two capes, and the rising sun of a new republic. Topping the coat of arms is the Phrygian Cap (Liberty Cap) with a single star (similar to the "Libertad" cap on the 1895 Argentina Two Centavos coin offered as Lot #657). Lettering: "REPUBLICA DE CUBA" and the denomination in words, "TRES PESOS" ("Three Pesos")
Reverse: Features Che Guevara in his beret with a single star, looking toward the horizon, in the world-famous "Guerrillero Heroico" portrait based on the 1960 photograph by Alberto Korda. Inscribed at the top is the motto "PATRIA O MUERTE" ("Fatherland or Death"), a phrase first popularized by Fidel Castro. The Date "1995" is positioned at the bottom.
The Cuba 1995 Three Pesos is one of the most recognizable coins in modern numismatics. While it is technically a circulating commemorative, it functions as a standard unit of the Cuban Peso (CUP). It is famous for featuring the iconic portrait of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, arguably the most reproduced image in the history of photography. This coins was minted by the Empresa Cubana de Acuñaciones in Havana. While 3-unit denominations are rare in most countries, they are a standard part of the Cuban system (alongside the 3 Peso banknote, which also features Che). Cuba specifically chose the 3 Peso denomination for Che Guevara to ensure he appeared on a unique denomination that stood out from the rest of the currency. It has become a must-have for anyone collecting Latin American history. Collector demand for the "Che Coin" keeps the market price high.

The book provides a chilling, day-by-day narrative of the events leading to World War II, including the annexation of Austria, the fall of Poland, and the daily life of Berliners under a totalitarian regime. It is celebrated for its objective yet deeply personal prose, serving as both a vital historical document and a precursor to Shirer’s later masterpiece, "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". The 1941 first edition is highly recognizable by its tan cloth binding and a striking dust jacket—designed by George Salter—featuring a bold, red and black typographic layout that captures the urgency of the era. As a landmark piece of 20th-century journalism, a 1941 Knopf first edition with dust jacket can reach 200 to 350 for serious collectors of WWII history.

Vintage 1941 History Book -- "Berlin Diary: The Journal of a Foreign Correspondent, 1934-1941" by William Shirer. (First Edition!)

First Edition. Hardcover. Dustjacket. Toronto: MacMillan of Canada, 1985. 208 pp. "Wife of...: An Irreverent Account of Life in Washington" is a sharp, satirical memoir written by Sondra Gotlieb, wife of Allan Gotlieb, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States during the Reagan era. Sondra Gotlieb became a celebrated and sometimes controversial figure in the "Beltway" social scene, with a series of highly popular columns for "The Washington Post," in which she used the persona of "Wife of" to offer a witty, "behind-the-scenes" look at the high-stakes world of diplomatic entertaining, power lunches, and the rigid social hierarchies of the American capital. Gotlieb’s narrative is noted for its candid observations on the anxieties of being a diplomatic spouse and the absurdity of political etiquette, making it a quintessential piece of 1980s political social history. As a celebrated work of Canadian-American diplomatic literature, a 1985 Macmillan first printing in bold fine condition can reach 50 to 75 for collectors of political memoirs and modern Canadian first editions.
