Stamped Celadon Folk Ware Bowl Qing
Dynasty (1850 - 1908)
• This bowl is characteristic of an antique
Southern Chinese provincial minyao (folk
kiln) celadon plate/bowl, from the Qing
Dynasty (1644-1912).
• I believe the time period would be the
4th quarter of the Qing dynasty, and the
type of iron oxide stamps were used
during the the reign of the following:
- Emperor Xianfeng (F #): Reign 1850-1861
- Emperor Tongzhi (a]*a): Reign 1862-1874
- Emperor Guangxu (**#): Reign 1875-1908
• The very
"groggy or gritty" clay used in
this bowl comes from the coastal regions
of Southern China, around Fujian, and
the Zhangzhou/Minnan kilns) and
Guangdong provinces.
• The images on the bowl are stamped
using a dense underglaze iron-oxide
pigment. This abstracted "Shou" (# /
5) character, meaning Longevity.
• This was fired in a
"dragon kiln", a 30 to
100 metre hillside kiln fulled by wood.
• In excellent condition, no cracks,
breaks, or chips. View Images.

Cristallo Venezia CC "Uranium
Glass" Murano Sommerso Large-
Scale Centrepiece Bowl
• The exaggerated, horizontally stretched
winged silhouette with curled-horn
handles is a hallmark design strictly tied
to their 1960's production era. As well, all
Murano factories phased out the use of
uranium oxide powder in their standard
production runs as of 1970.
• This piece does not have a label, but
Can be attributed to Cristallo Venezia
CC for the following reasons:
1) There are identical green-and-amber
Sommerso core bowls with the
outspread silhouette, and the scrolled
horn handles that exist in collector
databases and archive sites like 20th
Century Glass
2) Cristallo Venezia pieces feature a
highly recognizable, heavy multi-pointed
star-shaped or pedestal glass base.
3) The tightly curled, horn-like scroll handles
are a specific design trademark of this
workshop.
4) Your UV light test confirmed a uranium-
doped green glass layer wrapped sharply
alongside a non-reactive amber layer, all
encased in a thick crystal shell. This
complex, multi-layered chemical recipe
aligns exactly with the batch formulas used
by Cristallo Venezia during their prime
1950's-1960's.
• This piece is is classified as a Large-
Scale Centerpiece Bowl, because of the
weight and size, and were treated as
premium luxury investments when
bought new in the 1960's

Jim Yelton Squamish Nation - Killer
Whale Talking Stick 2010 Olympic
Games
• Jim, now age 71, was born on July 9,
1955, in Squamish, British Columbia. He
has carved for more than 50 years, and is
known internationally for his deep,
expressive formline carving and fine
attention to cultural detail.
• At 12, Jim was mentored by his father
Michael Yelton, a revered traditional
carver who taught the techniques, but
also the story, spiritual and cultural
importance behind Northwest Coast First
Nations images.
• This piece is not signed in the
traditional sense with a name, but rather
in form style. The "U" at the back od the
whale's tail is Jim's mark.
• Originally there would have been an
official certificate, but this has been lost
at some point.
• For the Squamish Nation, the Killer
Whale (Orca) is a symbol of great
strength, bravery, family, and unity.
• There is no record of how many of
these were ordered or made, but each is
slightly different for the other, because
they are hand carved individually.

• I have not been able to pinpoint the
specific Inuit community this artist comes
from, as the phonetically spelled out

Sanikiluag located on the Belcher Islands
