Collection of four Latvian-language hardcover books written by the prominent Latvian author Ādolfs Erss. All four volumes were published between 1964 and 1973 by the historic diaspora publisher Tilta Apgāds based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. These editions served the vibrant post-WWII community of Latvian exiles, preserving Baltic culture and literature during the Soviet occupation of their homeland. The titles included in this collection represent a deep exploration of Latvian identity, romance, spirituality, and rural life: • Aglonas Dievmātes atgriešanās (The Return of the Mother of God of Aglona) – Romāns, 1964. A deeply moving narrative touching on faith and regional heritage centered around Latvia's sacred Aglona shrine. • Mīlestības varavīksne (The Rainbow of Love) – Romāns, 1968. A beautifully written classic romance tracking intricate human dynamics. • Satīrs un krusts (Satyr and Cross) – Romāns, 1970. Erss's famous 1920s masterpiece exploring philosophical and moral contrasts between pagan sensuality and Christian spirituality. Includes a promotional synopsis flap overviewing the plot. • Lauku varoņi (Rural Heroes) – Stāsti, 1973. A vivid collection of short stories capturing the spirit, hardships, and resilience of Latvian country folk. • The Author (Ādolfs Erss, 1885–1945): Erss was a highly influential Latvian writer, journalist, and cultural figure. Tragically, following the Soviet occupation of Latvia, he was arrested and perished in 1945. Because his works were heavily censored or banned under the Soviet regime, diaspora editions like these were the primary way his literary legacy was kept alive in the mid-to-late 20th century. • The Publisher (Tilta Apgāds): Founded by Latvian exiles in the United States, Tilta Apgāds (Bridge Publishing) was instrumental in printing high-quality literature for the global Latvian diaspora. Books from this publisher are highly valued by collectors of Baltic emigre history (trimdas literatūra). • Cover Artists: The volumes explicitly credit notable diaspora artists on the back cover bounds, including Ojārs Jēgens (for Satīrs un krusts) and Eduards Dzenis (for Lauku varoņi), adding cross-collectible appeal for lovers of mid-century book design.
