Complete, four-volume hardcover set of the monumental historical romance novel ("Līgava: mīlestības romāns 4 grāmatās by Jēkabs Janševskis) (The Bride) by the acclaimed Latvian author Jēkabs Janševskis. This specific "Otrais izdevums" (Second Edition) set was published sequentially between 1968 and 1970 by the prominent diaspora publisher Tilts (Tilta apgāds) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Decorated with traditional Latvian geometric motifs and a distinct visual cover illustration designed by artist Ernests Ābele (as noted on the inner flap text, "Ernesta Ābeles vāks"). Edition Details by Volume: • Volume I: Published in 1968 • Volume II: Published in 1969 • Volume III: Published in 1969 • Volume IV: Published in 1970 • The Author (Jēkabs Janševskis): Janševskis (1865–1931) is a monumental figure in Latvian literature. He is celebrated for his vibrant, highly descriptive, and sweeping multi-volume novels capturing ethnographic details, folklore, and regional psychology. Līgava is a cornerstone work that colorfully portrays the lives, traditions, and humor of the people of Kurzeme (Courland) near the end of the feudal corvée era. • The Publisher (Tilts / Tilta apgāds): Books published by Tilts carry significant historical weight. Following World War II, a massive wave of Latvian intellectuals fled Soviet occupation and established vibrant "exile" culture centers globally. Based in Minneapolis, Tilts was one of the premier diaspora publishing houses responsible for preserving Latvian literature, language, and history safely outside the Iron Curtain. • Language & Rarity: Written entirely in the Latvian language, these diaspora prints were produced in limited quantities primarily for Latvian refugee communities scattered across North America, Europe, and Australia. Complete, uniform four-volume sets in this condition are increasingly difficult to source together. Pickup category timeslot {A}
