Compelling two-volume set of Latvian DP (Displaced Persons) / Exile Literature written by noted diaspora author Sandra Lazdiņa (pseudonym of Aleksandra Buša, 1906–?). Both books feature strikingly matching, elegant textured cloth bindings with geometric and cultural spine embossing, complete with the prominent publisher's insignia at the base of the spine. • Volume 1: Uz mājām (To Home) – Romans (Novel), Published 1965, Tilta Apgāds, 352 pages. • Volume 2: Mana vaina (My Fault) – Romans (Novel), Published 1968, Tilta Apgāds, 320 pages. Collector's Notes & Historical Context • The Author (Sandra Lazdiņa): Born in 1906, Sandra Lazdiņa wrote heavily from her raw, firsthand observations as a Latvian exile living across England and America. Her novels focus intimately on the traumatic "Baigais gads" (Year of Terror), the plight of Baltic refugees at the close of World War II, and the agonizing psychological transition into displaced diaspora communities. • The Publisher (Tilta Apgāds): Operating primarily out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, under the leadership of visionary editor Hugo Skrastiņš, Tilta Apgāds was one of the premier cultural lifelines for the global postwar Latvian diaspora. Books published by Tilts were produced in limited quantities exclusively for exiled communities, prioritizing the preservation of heritage over commercial profit. • Language & Rarity: Written entirely in Latvian. Postwar exile literature (Trimdas literatūra) is highly collectible because these books were actively suppressed and banned inside Soviet-occupied Latvia. Surviving copies remained almost exclusively within small immigrant communities in North America and Western Europe, making intact copies in good condition increasingly difficult to find today.
