Beautiful, highly collectible 6-volume collection of works by the prominent Latvian writer and historical figure Andrievs Niedra. Published in the early 1970s by the famed post-war exile publishing house Tilta Apgāds in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this set represents an important piece of 20th-century Latvian diaspora (trimda) literary history. All text is written entirely in the Latvian language and features unique, era-authentic cover and jacket designs by noted Latvian artists. • Raksti I (1971): Vēsturiski Stāsti (Historical Stories). Cover design based on work by Rihards Zariņš (Richards Zarriņš). • Raksti II (1972): Vēsturiski Stāsti (Historical Stories). • Raksti III (1972): Romāns un Stāsts (Novel and Story). • Raksti IV (1972): Romāns un Stāsts (Novel and Story). • Anna Gaigala (1971): Romāns un Fantastisks Stāsts (Novel and Fantastic Story). Jacket design by Ojārs Jēgens. • Māras Josta (1971): Pēdējie Stāsti (The Last Stories). • The Author (Andrievs Niedra): Niedra (1871–1942) was a highly influential yet controversial figure in Latvian history. A writer, poet, and Lutheran pastor, he briefly served as Prime Minister of the German-backed provisional government in 1919. Because of his political history, his books were strictly banned, and existing copies were ordered destroyed in Latvia under both the pre-war authoritarian regime and the subsequent Soviet occupation. Consequently, mid-century exile editions like these were the only way his complete literary catalog survived. • The Publisher (Tilta Apgāds): Based out of Minneapolis, Tilta Apgāds was one of the premier post-WWII publishers for the Latvian diaspora network (trimda). They specialized in printing high-quality cultural, religious, and historical literature to preserve Latvian heritage abroad during the Soviet era. Artist Attributions: The design framework for the multi-volume Raksti collection utilizes the work of Rihards Zariņš, one of Latvia's most revered graphic masters (famed for designing the Latvian coat of arms and national currency). Meanwhile, the striking mid-century portrait dust jacket on Anna Gaigala is designed by Ojārs Jēgens, a prominent post-war diaspora poet, publisher, and graphic artist. Pickup category timeslot {A}
