Well-preserved copy of "Prezidents Atbild: Žurnālista atmiņas un piezīmes" (The President Answers: A Journalist's Memories and Notes) by the prominent Latvian journalist Jānis Porietis. Published in 1966 by the renowned exile publishing house Tilta apgāds, this hardcover edition retains its striking, highly stylized original dust jacket featuring artwork by Voldemārs Ozoliņš. Written entirely in the Latvian language, this volume serves as a vital piece of mid-century Baltic emigre history. Collector's Points of Interest • The Author (Jānis Porietis): Porietis was an influential Latvian journalist whose firsthand accounts offer deep historical insight. This work compiles his invaluable memoirs, notes, and political observations regarding pre-World War II Latvia, the critical 1934 coup d'état, and the inner workings of the Latvian presidency during a turbulent era. • The Publisher (Tilta Apgāds): Based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tilta Apgāds was one of the premier post-WWII diaspora publishing hubs. They were instrumental in preserving Latvian culture, language, and uncensored history while Latvia was under Soviet occupation. Books from this publisher are highly sought after by institutional archives and private collectors tracking Baltic exile literature. • Language & Cultural Value: Printed exclusively in Latvian for the displaced diaspora community, print runs for these editions were inherently limited. Finding a copy that retains its original dust jacket in solid condition is increasingly uncommon. • Cover Design: The minimalist back cover clearly attributes the cover artwork design to the notable diaspora artist Voldemārs Ozoliņš, adding significant aesthetic and cross-collectible value to the book.
