Beautiful, cohesive set of four vintage hardcover volumes by the prominent Latvian writer Pāvils Rozītis. All four books are written entirely in the Latvian language and feature striking, uniform decorative cloth spines with traditional geometric motifs. Included Titles & Publication Years: • Valmieras puikas (Novels) – 1963 • Pret savu gribu (Novellas & Stories) – 1964 • Ceplis (Novel) – 1966 • Granātu ziedi (Novellas & Stories) – 1967 Collector's Value Notes: • The Publisher (Tilta Apgāds): These books were published by Tilta Apgāds (The Bridge Publishing House), a highly important post-WWII Latvian exile press based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Because Soviet authorities heavily censored and restricted classic national literature inside occupied Latvia, diaspora publishing houses like Tilta played a critical role in preserving authentic Latvian culture and language abroad. • The Author (Pāvils Rozītis): Rozītis (1889–1937) remains one of Latvia's most celebrated twentieth-century authors. This collection includes his most famous masterpiece, Ceplis, a sharp social satire on the entrepreneurial class of independent 1920s Latvia, which remains a cornerstone of the Latvian literary canon.
