• Title: Trimdas augstā dziesma (The High Song of Exile) • Author: Guntis Zariņš (1926–1965) • Publisher: Tilta apgāds (Minneapolis) • Publication Year: 1967 • Language: Latvian • Illustrator: Alfreds Jaunzems (Cover & Illustrations) • Format: Hardcover with Original Dust Jacket Neautiful copy of the 1967 novel "Trimdas augstā dziesma" written by the prominent post-war Latvian diaspora author Guntis Zariņš. Published posthumously in Minneapolis by the historic Latvian emigré publishing house Tilta apgāds, this volume includes the striking original graphic cover and internal illustrations by Alfreds Jaunzems. • The Author (Guntis Zariņš): A vital figure in modern post-war Latvian diaspora literature. After fighting in the Latvian Legion during World War II, Zariņš lived in exile in England. His work captured the existential despair, psychological trauma, and raw realities of the war generation without sugarcoating history. He died tragically by suicide in 1965 at age 39; this novel was published posthumously two years later. • The Publisher (Tilta apgāds): "Tilts" (The Bridge) was one of the most significant cultural lifeboats for the thousands of Latvians fleeing Soviet occupation after WWII. Operating primarily out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, this publisher meticulously preserved Latvian culture, distribution networks, and uncensored literature across the global diaspora. • The Language & Historical Context: Written and printed entirely in Latvian for the global community in exile. Because these print runs were specifically limited to cold-war refugee communities scattered across North America, Australia, and Western Europe, well-preserved diaspora first editions like this are scarcer than mainstream English books from the same era Pickup category timeslot {A}
