Lot #249: Vintage Signed Aztec Copper Relief Repoussé Enameled Art Plaque

This is a Mid-Century (circa 1960s–1970s) Mexican/South American enamel-on-copper / repoussé wall plaque inspired by Mesoamerican (Mayan/Aztec) iconography. Depiction: It features stylized Pre-Columbian figures facing each other in traditional ceremonial attire, complete with intricate feathered headpieces, ear spools, woven garments, and symbolic speech scrolls or offerings. Technique & Construction Material: Pressed/hammered sheet copper (repoussé technique) with a rich brown/bronze patina that gives depth and texture to the background. Coloring: Features vibrant cold enamel (or heavy enamel lacquer) in shades of avocado green, turquoise, ochre yellow, pumpkin orange, and deep red filled into the recessed and raised relief areas. The Artist signature reads as "Lezaeta 74". Mid-20th century Latin American repoussé metalwork (particularly from Mexico and Chile) frequently featured artists signing with single surnames and two-digit year marks directly into the copper or brass plate. Lezaeta is a Basque surname, very common in Chile and Argentina, and present in Mexico. The piece measures nearly 22" in diameter. See pics for exact condition. Amazing piece!
