Classic vintage 1980s Postmodern-style 3-drawer chest of drawers manufactured by the renowned Canadian furniture company, Palliser Furniture.
This sturdy bedroom chest features the iconic, flowing rounded "waterfall" top and bottom edges that defined late 20th-century contemporary design. It is finished in a warm, light oak wood-grain laminate, accented by recessed wood and brass-tone horizontal bar handles.

Interior proudly bears the authentic, original Palliser maker's sticker.

• Brand: Palliser Furniture
• Era: Circa 1980s / Early 1990s
• Era Style: Postmodern / 80s Art Deco Revival
• Construction: Wood-grain laminate finish with rounded waterfall moldings

See photos for condition - ink mark on front, one corner of floor of top drawer could be resecured with a small nail.

• The Chicken Barn Origins: Palliser Furniture was founded in 1944 by Abram Albert DeFehr, a Russian-born immigrant to Canada. He began crafting simple wooden furniture in his Winnipeg basement, eventually moving operations into a former chicken barn, which served as the company's first official factory.
• A North American Institution: Renamed Palliser in 1980, the company grew rapidly to become one of the largest furniture manufacturers in North America. They were widely celebrated for their "casegoods" (wooden dressers, desks, and bedroom sets) throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
• End of an Era: This piece represents a historic era for the company. In 2004, Palliser spun its wooden furniture division off into DeFehr Furniture, which officially closed down in 2022. Today, Palliser operates strictly as an upholstery-focused brand (making custom sofas and recliners), meaning their vintage wooden casegoods like this one are no longer produced.

Vintage 1980s Palliser 3-Drawer Waterfall Dresser – Light Oak Finish

See notes below on what lifts this Bateman above most you see.

This is a beautifully framed, HAND-SIGNED and numbered limited edition photolithographic print by the world-renowned Canadian wildlife artist Robert Bateman. Titled "Northern Reflections – Loon Family," this iconic piece beautifully captures a pair of common loons gliding across calm, reflective waters against the dramatic backdrop of a pre-Cambrian quartzite cliff in Killarney Provincial Park, Ontario.
This specific print includes the original Mill Pond Press documentation slip attached to the backing, detailing the artist's personal inspiration, creative process, and the historical background of the masterpiece.

Historical Significance & Collector Notes

• Royal Wedding Gift Provenance: The original painting of this image holds a prestigious place in history. It was commissioned and selected to be the official wedding gift from the Government of Canada to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) and Lady Diana Spencer upon their marriage.
• Hand-Signed & Numbered: This piece features Bateman’s crisp, hand-signed pencil signature in the bottom right margin, alongside the plate signature and date (1981). It is registered as piece number 4544 out of a limited edition of 8,631.
• Expertly Framed & Matted: Professionally housed in a striking triple-matted display featuring neutral slate-grey, cream, and dark green accents that perfectly complement the natural mosses, rocks, and water tones of the artwork. The frame is a classic dark wood with elegant antiqued gold/silver trim detailing.

This is part of the original 1986 fund-raising print run of 8,631 which completely sold out at the publisher decades ago. No more will ever be printed on this medium. Because loons are Bateman’s most iconic and sought-after subject matter, this specific title holds its value far better than his lesser-known landscapes or bird prints.

Most Bateman prints are just beautiful nature scenes, but this one has historical weight. As the original painting was commissioned by the Canadian Government as the official wedding gift to Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Mentioning "The Royal Print" instantly elevates its prestige above ordinary decor.

Cheap reproductions have a printed signature embedded in the picture itself (a "plate signature"). This print has that, plus a distinct, hand-signed pencil signature provided by Bateman himself on the lower margin.

Hand-signed, and numbered limited-edition offset lithograph print titled "Bright Day – Atlantic Puffins" by the world's premier wildlife artist, Robert Bateman.
This masterwork captures a group of Atlantic puffins gathered on a steep coastal cliff along the rugged East Coast. True to Bateman's signature style, the composition behaves like a visual symphony. It draws the eye dynamically across the texturized rock and wild ocean grasses, contrasting the detailed plumage of the puffins against the softly blurred, deep blue swells of the North Atlantic.
The piece comes beautifully housed in a premium silver-leaf wooden profile frame featuring an oversized neutral matte that perfectly coordinates with the artwork and emphasizes the crispness of the printing inks.
• Artist: Robert McLellan Bateman (RCA, OC)
• Title: Bright Day – Atlantic Puffins
• Medium: Limited Edition Offset Lithograph on Acid-Free Archive Stock
• Signature: Hand-signed in pencil by the artist (lower right); hand-numbered (lower left)
• Framed Dimensions: 25.25" Height x 30.5" Width

Collector’s Notes & Historical Context

While thousands of secondary-market Bateman prints are available online, "Bright Day – Atlantic Puffins" stands significantly above the standard inventory for several key reasons:
• A Narrative of Environmental Urgency: Bateman painted the original composition following a 24-hour stay directly within a wild puffin colony. He noted that while the scene looks cheerful, the expressions of the puffins are profoundly "tragic-comic". He intended the artwork to highlight their quiet, exhausting battle for survival against encroaching herring gulls—a population boom caused directly by modern commercial fishing waste. It is a quintessential example of Bateman using fine art as a vehicle for global conservation advocacy.
• The "British Sailor" Imagery: Bateman explicitly noted that his inspiration for the palette came from the sea. He famously remarked that the puffins reminded him of old-time British sailors, and the vivid, geometric blocks of orange and yellow on their bills mirrored the nautical flags and celebratory bunting strung across historic sailing ships.
• Exclusivity Over Massive Modern Runs: Many common Bateman images seen on the market are unlimited promotional posters, book plates, or massive modern commercial reproductions. This particular print belongs to the traditional, highly restricted primary print run (historically capped at an edition size of 950 prints worldwide). It holds a much stricter scarcity profile than standard open editions.
• Premium Presentation Value: Framing costs for a piece of this size can easily exceed the baseline secondary market value of an unframed print. This lot includes an elegant, high-end gallery frame that is completely ready to hang, making it an excellent investment for residential spaces, coastal cottages, or corporate boardrooms.

Robert Bateman SIGNED Limited Edition Print "Bright Day – Atlantic Puffins"

Up for auction is a beautifully presented, limited-edition lithograph print titled Courting Pair – Whistling Swans by the world-renowned Canadian naturalist and artist, Robert Bateman.
This striking piece captures two tundra swans engaged in a dramatic courtship display against a meticulously rendered backdrop of ice and snow. The print is hand-signed by the artist in pencil in the bottom right corner and explicitly hand-numbered 831/950 in the lower left corner.
Dimensions:
• Frame Size: Approximately 33" x 27.75"
Condition & Provenance Details (Collector's Dream):
This piece stands far above standard market copies because it features all original institutional labeling preserved:
• Original Mill Pond Press Label: The authentic publisher's registration sticker is attached to the backing, matching the hand-written edition number (831/950).
• Full Artist Inserts Attached: Includes the original, intact printed documents from the publisher on the reverse side: a biographical overview of Robert Bateman and his personal artist's commentary detailing the unique creative challenges behind this specific work.
• Professional Canadian Custom Framing: Housed behind a double mat and a substantial gold-toned wooden frame, originally crafted by Parkview Frame-Work Inc. in Kanata, Ontario. The framing is tight, neat, and instantly ready to hang.
Historical Context & Notes of Interest:
• The Rare 950 Tier: While many of Bateman’s popular prints were run in massive editions of 1,950 to meet 1980s demand, this harder-to-find edition was restricted to a smaller batch of only 950 impressions worldwide.
• A Pivot Point in Wildlife Art: Originally painted in 1975, this work comes from a foundational era when Bateman transitioned from a high school geography teacher into an internationally recognized pioneer of environmental realism.
• The "Whistling" Nomenclature: For birding and nature enthusiasts, this print preserves a specific moment in ornithological history. The birds are listed under their historical name, the "Whistling Swan." The species has since been officially reclassified by taxonomists as the Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus), making the title a nostalgic collectible marker of 20th-century natural history.
Why This Specific Piece Stands Above the Rest:
• No Loose Paper Risks: Many Bateman prints on the market are sold loose, rolled, or unmounted. This piece is fully framed to museum standards, preserving the paper flatly and protecting it from edge wear.
• Compositional Brilliance: Unlike Bateman's darker, heavily forested wilderness scenes, Courting Pair utilizes a brilliant "white-on-white" color palette. The high-contrast interplay between the white plumage, pristine snow, and the dark bills and feet of the swans creates an exceptionally bright, modern aesthetic that fits perfectly into contemporary home decor styles.

Robert Bateman SIGNED Ltd. Ed. Print "Courting Pair – Whistling Swans" 831/950 – Gallery

An exceptional, investment-grade limited-edition lithograph by the world-renowned master of wildlife art, Robert Bateman. This piece, titled Trumpeter Swans and Aspen (Cygnus buccinator), is individually numbered 513/950 and features Bateman’s authentic hand-signature in pencil in the lower right margin, directly beneath his printed signature.
This beautifully preserved work is housed in an elegant gold-toned frame with professional matting. The back of the frame retains its complete original gallery documentation, including the artist's biographical summary, a specific commentary on the creation of this piece, and a dedicated title card hand-numbered to match the print.

Dimensions

• Frame Size: Approximately 30.25 inches x 36.5 inches

Historical Significance & Collector's Notes

What truly elevates this piece above the vast market of common Robert Bateman reproductions is its pedigree and artistic origin:
• The 1975 Endangered Species Exhibition: Bateman originally painted this masterpiece in 1975 specifically to be showcased in a landmark exhibition dedicated to endangered species. At the time, the trumpeter swan was on the brink of extinction. This image served as a powerful symbol for conservation, celebrating one of the most successful wildlife recovery stories in North American history.
• Japanese Screen Influence: Unlike traditional, heavily dense wildlife backdrops, Bateman deliberately structured this painting to emulate classic Japanese screen art. By utilizing flat, open "negative space" and starkly contrasting the delicate, golden autumn aspen branches against a high-key, misty background, he achieved an elegant, minimalist tranquility that is highly sought after by collectors of fine art.

Why This Piece Stands Above the Rest

The market is filled with unnumbered poster prints, modern digital open-editions, and plate-signed reproductions that carry very little secondary market value. This is not one of them. This piece is a verified early-era, mechanical lithograph from a strictly capped run of 950. Accompanied by its full, intact suite of original backing literature, it represents the exact tier of Bateman prints that serious wildlife art collectors look for.

Condition Note

The lithograph itself is in beautiful, crisp condition with vibrant coloration. Please note that the print has shifted slightly inside the matting over time and currently rests at a minor tilt (not perfectly square with the frame window). This is a very common occurrence with wire-hung art and can be easily remedied by an archivist or local custom framing shop by opening the dust cover to realign and re-secure the print.

• Artist: Robert Bateman

• Year of Release: 1987
• Edition Number: 401 / 950
• Publisher: Mill Pond Press, Inc.
• Frame Dimensions: Approximately 23" x 28" (Image size: 17.375" x 13.5")
• Framing Details: Professional gallery custom framing by Proctor Framers & Art Supplies (Kanata, ON), double-matted with coordinated crisp white and cool blue matting, and presented in a classic metallic-wash wood frame.

Historical Significance & Artist’s Notes

This artwork represents a deeply personal slice of Canadian heritage. The scene portrays a tranquil, leaf-strewn farm path running east off of Blind Lane, just south of Britannia Road in Burlington, Ontario—located directly beneath the rural property where Bateman lived and walked daily for over two decades.
Bateman painted this piece to pay homage to the early North American pioneers who intentionally planted rows of protective deciduous trees along their farm lanes. In the artist's own words regarding the piece:
"In this painting, I tried to capture the feeling of autumn and the smell and rustle of that golden carpet. To give a little cool contrast, I put in a couple of flashes of blue. Blue jays are also very much a part of the sounds of autumn for we always hear their ringing cry..."

Collector’s Note: Why This Piece Stands Above the Rest

The market contains countless Robert Bateman prints, but serious collectors distinguish heavily between mass-produced open editions and premium archival print runs. This piece is vastly superior to the average Bateman print for three key reasons:
1. A Scarcity of 950: Many of Bateman's later, highly commercialized print runs in the late 1980s and 1990s climbed to staggering edition sizes of 7,000 to over 15,000 prints (such as Vigilance or End of Season Grizzly). At only 950 signed and numbered impressions, Farm Lane and Blue Jays belongs to a significantly smaller, more exclusive run.
2. The "Full Package" Provenance: A significant percentage of secondary market prints lose their paperwork over forty years. This lot includes the original Mill Pond Press publisher card hand-matched to print #401/950, the attached biographical essay, and the stamp of a dedicated custom framer. This complete documentation preserves maximum institutional and resale value.
3. Impeccable Archival Presentation: Unlike raw, rolled prints or pieces subjected to cheap pre-fabricated frames, this print has been professionally housed behind glass with acid-free double matting since its early history, keeping the paper perfectly flat and clear of edge damage.
An ideal addition for collectors of fine Canadian art, wildlife enthusiasts, or those wishing to bring a brilliant, nostalgic piece of the Ontario autumn landscape into their home.

Robert Bateman "Endangered Spaces – Grizzly" Signed & Numbered Limited Edition Lithograph (2490/4008) – Professionally Framed with Original COA & Earth Day Documentation

Up for auction is a magnificent, investment-grade investment piece by Canada’s premier wildlife artist, Robert Bateman. This limited-edition paper lithograph, titled "Endangered Spaces – Grizzly," perfectly showcases Bateman's unparalleled capability to blend hyper-realistic accuracy with raw, cinematic narrative.
This specific piece is hand-numbered 2490/4008 and features a crisp, distinct pencil signature by the artist in the lower right margin. It arrives beautifully housed in a high-end, gallery-quality frame, measuring approximately 38.5" x 29.25", complete with professional multi-tonal matting that accents the cool tones of the crashing river water.

Why This Specific Piece Stands Above the Rest

While many Robert Bateman prints circulate on the secondary market, this listing possesses a rare trifecta of premium attributes that dramatically elevates its collector value:
• The "Collector Gold Standard" Documentation: Many Bateman prints have lost their accompanying paperwork over the decades. This piece includes the complete original documentation package, featuring the official artist registry card, the detailed descriptive narrative insert, and the historical "Celebrate Earth Day" background context.
• Pristine Presentation: The print has been carefully preserved under a stunning, archival-grade triple-matting scheme. The premium frame is structurally sound, clean, and ready to immediately hang as a commanding centerpiece in a home, office, or cabin.
• Flawless Signatures: Unlike faded examples exposed to direct UV rays, both the printed plate signature ("Robert Bateman 1990") and the hand-signed graphite signature retain absolute crispness and sharp contrast against the pristine white margins.

Historical Background & Artistic Significance

Painted in 1990, this iconic work holds deep environmental importance. It was commissioned alongside an international environmental campaign supported by HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands to celebrate Earth Day.
Rather than focusing narrowly on an "endangered species," Bateman intentionally titled it "Endangered Spaces" to broadcast a critical message: we cannot save wildlife without fiercely protecting the untamed wilderness they require to survive.
The scene depicts a powerful, mature grizzly bear charging through an explosion of whitewater. Bateman notes that he composed the two glaucous-winged gulls exploding out beyond the borders of the central frame to give the viewer a visceral, panoramic sense of a vast, uncontained wild world—creating intense dynamic tension where you, the viewer, feel like an intruder in the bear's sovereign territory.

About the Maker: Mappin & Webb Ltd.
Founded in 1775 by Jonathan Mappin in Sheffield, England, Mappin & Webb Antiques is one of the most celebrated and enduring luxury brands in British history. Over its 250-year heritage, the company evolved from a premier Sheffield cutlery workshop into an international silversmith and jeweler catering to high society, foreign monarchs, and global elite.
Mappin & Webb’s prestige is firmly rooted in its long-standing relationship with the British Monarchy. The firm was granted its first Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria in 1897 and has continuously served five consecutive monarchs since. In 2012, the company's master craftsman was appointed to the revered position of Crown Jeweller, serving as the official custodian of the British Crown Jewels. Renowned globally for marrying timeless elegance with uncompromising durability, historical pieces from Mappin & Webb remain highly sought after by collectors of fine silver and luxury heritage items.

Even when dealing with silver plate rather than solid sterling silver, a Mappin & Webb set retains measurable commercial value for several distinct reasons:
1. The "Royal Warrant" Value Premium:
The gold-embossed King George V warrant stamped inside the box lid Mappin & Webb Antiques transforms a simple wooden case into a historical artifact. Collectors of royal memorabilia and elite luxury brands actively pay a premium just for the provenance of the box.
2. Proprietary Plating Superiority (Mappin Plate):
Unlike cheap or standard electroplated silver (EPNS), Mappin & Webb historically formulated their own proprietary, heavily-layered silver-plating techniques (including their famous Prince's Plate). They heavily reinforced the points of maximum friction—such as the tips of spoon bowls and fork tines.
