Lot #108: Antique 19th Century Ornate Gilded Wood & Gesso Picture Frame – 25" x 29"

Up for auction is a stunning, authentic antique picture frame dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century. This heavily ornate frame features beautifully detailed, repeating classical fan and scrollwork motifs molded in gesso over a solid wood base. The frame boasts a rich, deep gold leaf or bronzed finish with an elegant aged patina that brings out the depth of the intricate carvings. The back features its original natural wood construction with standard mitered corners and early wire hanging hardware. This frame is perfect for housing a period oil painting, a high-end art print, or being converted into a statement antique mirror. • Approximate Outer Dimensions: 25" W x 29" H • Condition Report: Beautiful antique condition overall with fantastic structural integrity. Shows minor, honest age-related wear, including a small patch of missing gesso ornamentation on the upper inner rim (as pictured), which adds to its authentic period character. Frames from this era were typically crafted by specialized regional gilders, frame makers, or high-end art galleries rather than recognizable mass-market brands. The presence of a gesso-on-wood composition combined with the plain, hand-planed wood backing and old eyelet screws firmly places this piece in the Late Victorian or European Revival era (circa 1880–1910).
