Lot #90: Greek Black Figure Art Pottery Vase Signed

Vintage mid-to-late 20th-century Greek art studio vase, hand-painted in the style of ancient Greek black-figure pottery. The main painting depicts an ancient Greek hoplite (citizen-soldier) in mid-stride, lunging with a spear in his right hand. He is wearing a classic Corinthian helmet with a striking cobalt blue crest and carries a large circular Argive shield painted with matching blue and black concentric circles. While the figure uses the ancient silhouette-heavy black-figure technique, the surrounding background diverges completely from traditional antiquity. Instead of a solid terracotta background, the artist used a modern mid-century color-blocked palette featuring panels of sage green, powder blue, and soft orange to frame the warrior. The interior is also coated in the same striking blue glaze. Signed "Amedeo 85" The signature belongs to Amedeo, Signed Amedeo, who worked for A. & C. Cavicchioli Original Pottery, which was handcrafted and painted in Canada. This company is tied to the Cavicchioli family of Italian-Canadian artisans who brought traditional European sgraffito and hand-painting techniques to Ontario, Canada. The numbers indicate the piece was painted or finished in 1985. Giving it a 40+ year vintage history. Dimensions: 12” H x 5.5” round Pickup category timeslot {A}
