(1890 to 1912) Japanese Imari Porcelain Cup & Saucer "Set of 2" • The back mark signifies that these sets were decorated in the Kutani region, specifically Ishikawa Prefecture. • These were made in the late 19th Century (Late Meiji Era): Specifically from around 1890 to 1912. • Style: The set has the classic Kinrande (gold-embroidered) style with the underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze rust- red iron enamels, and gilding throughout. • Design: Alternating spiral panels, or (nejiri-moyo) with floral motifs. The center has a traditional medallion showcasing pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms (the "Three Friends of Winter"). • Form: These pieces have a scalloped rim like flower petals. The handleless design is characteristic of traditional Japanese yunomi (tea cups) or sencha Cups. • The red and gold stylized emblem in the center represents a fuku (7a) variant mark, which is is characteristic of Daishoji Imari (#(5E). • Decorating a single complex Kinrande (gold-brocade) saucer in a Daishoji workshop typically required 3 to 5 hours of cumulative, active hands-on painting time However, because the decoration was divided into multiple stages and firings, the total timeframe to complete one piece stretched over several days to a week • Both in excellent condition, no breaks, cracks or chips.
