You put water in the lotus bowl and stick fresh cut flowers / short stems through the holes - it holds them upright in a beautiful bouquet. On the sides: The 3 arms are candle holders for small taper candles. So on your dining table, you would have: Fresh flowers in the center (in water) 3 candles lit around it It was very popular in the 1930s-1950s for formal dinners, weddings, and holidays. It's called a "Lotus Epergne" or "Candelabra Flower Frog Centerpiece." You put it in the middle of the table as the main decoration. When you light the candles, the lotus petals reflect the light.
